In a special administrative permit application filed with the city in December, the Atlanta-based developer outlined its plans for a full 200-room hotel, 114-unit multifamily project, 11,900 square feet of commercial space, and a 16-key micro hotel. Drawings for the smaller hotel show a four-story, 9,575 building along the east side of Airline Street.

Columbia Ventures didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on its plans.

Columbia Ventures has long looked to expand the Studioplex property, located in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, in a mix of ways. It developed and then sold SPX Alley, a 32,000-square-foot retail center east of the main Studioplex property, to Asana Partners in 2019, while Thrive Homes developed 19 townhomes just above that retail property.
