The Latin-inspired concept will open in Roswell on Canton Street in 2019, according to a press release Thursday.

Babalu will be housed in the Roswell Theatre, originally built in 1938.

Eat Here Brands’ CEO Abe Ruiz in a prepared statement said he and his team will work with the Roswell Historical Society to maintain the structure’s “unique architectural allure.”

“Bringing Babalu to neighborhoods experiencing revitalization has become a big part of our brand,” Ruiz said.

“In 2010, our founders Bill Latham and Al Roberts opened their first restaurant in Jackson, Mississippi’s historic Fondren neighborhood, which is the hub of the city’s Arts District.”

In Fondren, the restaurant replaced a classroom in a former elementary school.

The team “preserved as much of the original architecture as possible while still creating a fun and energetic space for guests.”

Babalu Roswell will offer 155 seats, joining existing locations in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and North Carolina.

An outpost in Midtown opened mid-2017.
