How Crispy is a venture of Benumkermi Hospitality Syndicate led by Chef Will Silbernagel, restaurateur Greg Best of Ticonderoga Club, and designer Bart Sasso of Ticonderoga Club and Sasso & Co.

“After a COVID delay and successfully operating as a pop-up, we are excited to finally bring our How Crispy brick-and-mortar dream to fruition,” Silbernagel said in a press release. “We have been perfecting our Atlanta Type Chicken, and our guests in Summerhill will be in for a treat when they try out our full menu.”

The walk-up window sandwich shop offers a menu of chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and more with limited seating at the front window and on an open-air patio. Menu highlights include:

  • Classic Crispy: herby spread, bread-and-butter pickles, crispy lettuce and a good bun
  • 6-Piece Chicken Nuggets, served with honey mustard nuggie sauce
  • Buffalo Chicken Dip: zesty chicken and cheese dip; ready to reheat and serve later with tortilla chips or veggies
  • Early Bird (coming soon): breakfast chicken whipped honey butter and a good ‘lil bun

“How Crispy is no stranger to Georgia Avenue in Summerhill,” Jack Murphy, Vice President at Carter, the Atlanta-based real estate firm that is developing Summerhill, said. “The owners have been wowing guests in the neighborhood for quite a while with their pop-ups and inventive service out of Halfway Crooks, and we’re thrilled to finally have How Crispy join our mix of restaurants full time.”

How Crispy Express is located at 71B Georgia Ave. and will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m, with plans to expand hours soon.

How Crispy Express will join several other food and beverage concepts in Carter’s Summerhill development including Maepole, Wood’s Chapel BBQ, Junior’s Pizza, Halfway Crooks Beer, Little Tart Bakery and Big Softie. Expected to open in the area by the end of 2022 are an unnamed restaurant from chef Duane Nutter, Hodgepodge Coffeehouse, D Boca N Boca, Redacted and Press Start.

Carter, in partnership with K. King & Company and Healey Weatherholtz Properties, is redeveloping Summerhill, an 80-acre mixed-use project in downtown Atlanta with Georgia State University as the anchor.

The private development team is developing 35 acres into a mixed-use neighborhood including corporate office uses, traditional multifamily apartments, specialty and neighborhood retail and private student apartments. The developers’ vision is to activate the streets of Summerhill into a vibrant, walkable, commercial corridor while maintaining the neighborhood’s historic fabric. The combination of the new and existing commercial buildings will create an accessible, human-scale destination where people want to eat, shop, and spend time.
