“Georgia Avenue is the heart and soul of Summerhill, and we are excited the development’s momentum is continuing despite the impacts of COVID-19,” David Nelson, senior vice president at Carter, said in Monday’s announcement. “This is our first announcement of new tenants since the pandemic hit, and these four new businesses will complement those already calling this thriving area home.”

The new tenants opening later in 2021 include:

  • Iconic Orthodontics: a new orthodontics practice, opening in early July and owned by Dr. Brandon Morgan, a Summerhill resident.
  • Center Parc Credit Union: a community-minded credit union that has made significant investments in the Summerhill community with this new brick-and-mortar location opening in spring 2021 and naming rights to Georgia State University’s stadium—Center Parc Stadium.
  • Aviary Beauty + Wellness: the second location of a local beauty salon owned by Amy Leavell Bransford, opening in summer 2021.

“Summerhill reflects the same progressive environment that I try to convey to my patients,” Dr. Morgan said. “I have lived in the neighborhood for four years, love being a part of this community, and appreciate its artsy feel and the direction it is moving. There are a lot of families here now, and we look forward to offering a comfortable, non-conventional experience to patients of all ages.”

The three new tenants will join local startup salon Maggie Murphy’s and eight food-and-beverage tenants that are currently open including Hot Dog Petes, Hero Doughnuts and Buns, Halfway Crooks Beer, Big Softie, The Little Tart Bakeshop, Little Bear, Junior’s Pizza and Wood’s Chapel BBQ. Other expected 2021 openings include Maepole, D Boca N Boca, Press Start, How Crispy and Redacted. Plans also call for a Publix supermarket.

“Georgia Avenue, with its spacious, welcoming patios, is quickly becoming a destination for people seeking out unique offerings from some of the city’s top local chefs,” Nelson said. “Our new apartments (565 Hank) and these newly announced tenants will add to Summerhill’s diversity, and continue to enhance the legacy of this truly special neighborhood.”
