Bocado restaurant’s valet tips thief with several automobiles

Update (Feb 27, 2 p.m.): Officer Kimberly Maggart with the Atlanta Police Department confirmed Sunday that only “one vehicle was taken” from Bocado Friday night.

Patrons of Bocado restaurant discovered their vehicles were stolen Friday night, after being valeted. Five automobiles were taken from the restaurant in total on Friday, according to the Foodie Buddha blog.

“Several customers were robbed at Bocado,” Foodie Buddha reported. “My understanding is that the thief stole the keys from the valet and then took five vehicles from the nearby lot.”

In 2009, a review left on City Search Atlanta from user dbahy1, reports a similar story.

“The valet was broken into with the majority of keys stolen. Many patrons had to go out to the valet and find out they had no keys,” said dbahy1.

Bocado owner, Brian Lewis, placed blame on the valet company, according to the review.

“I hired the valet company and you’ll have to deal with them.”

  1. I highly recommend you talk to Brian or someone at the Valet company or BOCADO. Unfortunately, you’re perpetuating an unconfirmed and inaccurate rumor.

I dined at BOCADO last night and a friend brought FoodieBuddha’s blog post to the attention of Brian Lewis and Todd Ginsberg. They confirmed that there was, in fact, only one car stolen.

I like your blog and enjoy hearing about what’s going on and happening in and around Atlanta, but I strongly believe that you and more importantly someone like Foodie Buddha should be validating these kind of rumors in some way before posting it on the internet or at a minimum, it should be CLEARLY marked that NO ONE has validated it. It’s irresponsible.

  2. Since it’s happened before, you’d think the valet company would’ve come up with a way to keep it from happening again. Whether it was one car or five, it’s pretty inexcusable.

  3. Having eaten there on Saturday night, I can say that it’s not surprising that their valet had an issue. The whole operation was a mess. If it is true what Mr Lewis said “I hired the valet company and you’ll have to deal with them.”, then I will NEVER return to Bocado. The Buck Stops Here mentality clearly doesn’t apply to Mr Lewis. It’s his restaurant and his problem.

  4. There is a significant difference between one car getting stolen and five. I would be very careful here. Throwing up “allegedly” is likely not enough. Has the valet company and Bocado not been available for comment? If that’s the case, I would put that in the story. I would also include more context.

This site has a news bent, and readers value the information here. That raises the level of journalism required.
