12th and Midtown announces two new restaurant tenants

Chutney and Taco Diner slated to open late summer 2013 at 77 12th Street

12th & Midtown in a press release Friday announced two additions to the district’s restaurant tenants: Chutney, a full-service Indian restaurant with an upscale and modern twist, and Taco Diner, a traditional Mexico City-style taqueria.

These new restaurant additions to 12th & Midtown are slated to open summer 2013 at 77 12th Street, according to the release.

Chutney and Taco Diner join Cucina Asellina, eleven, Piloa, RA Sushi, Ri Ra Irish Pub and STK at the mixed-use Midtown development.

“Chutney and Taco Diner are both unique and exciting in concept and design. Chutney’s contemporary approach to Indian cuisine and Taco Diner’s high-energy atmosphere will undoubtedly complement our many dining options at 12th & Midtown,” Shirley Gouffon, senior vice president of Selig Enterprises, co-developer of 12th & Midtown, said in the release.

Conceived by the owners of The Palace, an Atlanta-based Indian restaurant since 1998, Chutney’s dishes include chicken, lamb, fish and shrimp skewers, flatbreads prepared with freshly baked Indian naan and chili crab.

Taco Diner, the sister concept to M Crowd Restaurant Group’s Mi Cocina (scheduled to open October 2012 at 12th & Midtown) showcases flavors with a lighter approach to Mexican fare, emphasizing fresh fish, salads and a full selection of classic tacos, according to the release.

Chutney is represented by Irving Jacobson of The Shumacher Group. Taco Diner is represented by Penelope Cheroff of The Cheroff Group and Chad DuBose of Dallas based J.T. Evans Company.

  1. I've been wishing for an upscale Indian restaurant in Atlanta for years, but how disappointing that the emphasis is on serving "chicken, lamb, fish and shrimp" corpses, as if you can't get that kind of thing at almost every other restaurant in town. Meat. How original.

  2. For a second I thought it was going to be an Indian taco place, similar to how Hankook does Korean + tacos.... bummer!

And Wunderland, quit your b*tchin. Every Indian place I've ever been to has numerous vegetarian options.

  3. Loving the fact that this area is becoming a real hub.....more more more!!!

(Talking of indian restaurants does anyone know when Bhojanic is opening in Buckhead?)

  4. Do you realize how many restaurants are in the vicinity? This area will definitely be littered with people during dining periods, especially with all the new bodies in the neighborhood.
