The yogurt shop on the ground level of the Technology Square Research Building, at 85 5th Street NW Suite D, announced the news on an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of computer paper taped to its front window.

“We are closed,” according to the note. “For good.”

The Yogli Mogli space won’t sit dark for long, however.

Jamba (formerly Jamba Juice) has already begun construction to open in the yogurt shop’s place.

Brown paper recently went up at the space to cover the windows during the restaurant’s build out.

Innovative Signs & Lighting, LLC, the company installing the restaurant’s signage, confirmed the news in a telephone conversation with What Now Atlanta (WNA) Friday.

Plans for the new Jamba were first submitted to the City of Atlanta in April.

An exact location of where the quick-service restaurant would be situated on 5th Street had not yet been revealed at the time of the permit filing.

It’s unclear when the new Jamba will open.

Representatives for the quick-service restaurant, when reached by WNA earlier this year for comment, did not disclose a timeline for Jamba’s Tech Square debut.

Jamba, acquired by Focus Brands last year, will serve smoothies, juice, yogurt, wheatgrass shots, steel-cut oatmeal, and baked goods.

  1. This will probably do well by the school and I like what Tech did with Technology Square… but I still don’t understand why a frozen yogurt shop hasn’t opened in 12th and Midtown… or in Metropolis, or Viewpoint, or Spire… any one of those locations seem perfect.

  2. This yogurt craze is a little out of control. I find yogurt to be a little tasteless to be honest. All these places seem to taste the same. I much prefer ice cream. Everyone’s jumping on the yogurt bandwagon. Anyone want to open an ice cream place? I shouldn’t have to go out of my way to find a quality place like Morelli’s, Kilwins or Sheridan’s custard. And I’m not counting the chains, except Bruster is okay.

I agree. I’m starting to think the rebuilding of Atlanta means yogurt shops, nail salons and preteen clothing shops. Sad really. I would love to see a real deli open in midtown. As much as I love Alons I would like one closer in town. Is anyone listening?

  4. Oh, that fad died years ago. I like zombie movies, not zombie food trends. Will fro-yo please die for good.

  5. Mike…one of the reason’s you don’t see something like this in the buildings you mention is the rent’s are astronomical…and a yogurt shop simply can’t sell enough to pay the high rent. You may or may not recall there was an ice cream shop of sorts in Spire once, and it went out of biz.

Sad that the retailer’s can’t get their head around the concept that full space would probably drive up the demand and then maybe they could offer the space at more money. But now, it sits empty because a potential retail client takes one look and has to think twice about opening based on the traffic count (people walking on the street) and if they can make it. But if there were more businesses to window shop, or actually shop at, there would be more people on the sidewalks.

You know, what comes first? The chicken or the egg.

  6. @Thom, you obviously didn’t visit the “ice cream” shop in Spire. First, it wasn’t ice cream. Second, whatever it was, it was terrible.

  7. @Thumb – It was Tasti-D-Lite. And really, why does everyone have to be such an a$$ when they respond to someone’s post. It’s amazing what blogs have done to people being civil…

  8. I agree with @Thumb. Tasti-D-Lite was horrible…

On the rumor front: I keep hearing that the folks at Jake’s Ice Cream are looking at re-opening somewhere in Midtown. They occupied the former Kuhlman space in Spire during the Midtown Pop-Ups a while back.
