The recently-shuttered Aloha Asian Bistro, at 500 Piedmont Avenue NE, won’t sit dark long.

A restaurant called The Brunch Spot is planned for the space.

Lutherine Young, whose daughter owns and operates soul food restaurant April’s Place Southern Cuisine, is behind The Brunch Spot.

“We wanted to bring something different to the area,” Young told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview Tuesday.

“It’s not just going to be another restaurant that’s opening up in Atlanta.”

Slated to open as early as mid-November, pending permitting and licensing with the City, The Brunch Spot will serve up all-things brunch with a “southern twist.”

Think waffles, mac-and-cheese, and grits prepared a hundred ways, like with lobster.

“I’m from the south so I’m going to bring some of that flavor and show our guests how wonderful grits are.”

The interior will soon undergo a small renovation to make the space “simple but elegant,” and a bar will be built out to serve brunch staples like mimosas and bloody marys.

Live jazz will be played on occasion.

“Location is everything and this is the ideal location.”

Young is working with Walter Jordan of the Dogwood Restaurant Consulting Group on fleshing out the concept.
