Sweet Auburn Grande is planned for the intersection of Auburn Avenue NE and Jesse Hill Jr Drive NE.

According to a recent building permit application filed with the City of Atlanta, the development will include amenities and garage parking for residents.

Sweet Auburn is a historic neighborhood of Atlanta known for being the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr. Sweet Auburn was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

It was reported last August that a historic building at the property built in 1908 that was once home to the first Black-owned bank in Atlanta would be preserved and incorporated into the project.

Invest Atlanta announced last fall that a grant of up to $4 million from the Eastside TAD will would finance the construction of Sweet Auburn Grande. In their 2022 annual report, the organization described the project as “a live-work development with new multifamily housing units and affordable commercial space.”

Gorman & Company – a Wisconsin-based development, construction and property management company – is the team behind the project. The company expanded into the Georgia market in 2019 and is also the team behind Residences at Westview, a 60-unit affordable-housing project.
