Rivian’s Atlanta Service Center Undergoing Renovations

The electric vehicle manufacturer is giving its service center a boost as a Rivian showroom opens at Ponce City Market.

Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is renovating its service center in Atlanta.

According to a building permit application filed with the City of Atlanta, the scope of the work for “phase two” at the Rivian Service Center includes incorporating a service shop, parts storage and a training center.

The work would include construction of non-bearing walls, doors, lighting and a ceiling fan; the installation of four lift bays, electric charging stations and new electrical outlets for new equipment; and painting of parking stalls.

The renovation is projected to cost $550,000, according to the application. The service center is located at 2333 Defoor Hills Road NW.

In other news for Rivian, the EV company is opening its first Atlanta showroom at Ponce City Market this week. Visitors will get to see the company’s flagship vehicles, the R1T and R1S, and learn more about the ins and outs of driving and owning an electric vehicle. The showroom will be open at 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE.

The large manufacturing plant that Rivian is planning east of Atlanta is also moving forward.

Registrations for electric vehicles went up from 2022 to 2023 in Atlanta, according to Axios. Electric vehicles accounted for almost 9% of new vehicle registrations in January 2023, up from 5.5% a year earlier, with the Model 3 and Model Y from Tesla accounting for approximately half of the month’s new EV registrations, and Rivian’s Amazon delivery van following behind, according to the news outlet.

Rivian is headquartered in Irvine, California, with an assembly plant in Normal, Illinois.
