Anthony Spina and Billy Streck have named their forthcoming Studioplex restaurant Nina and Rafi, a press release Wednesday confirmed.

Nina and Rifa are the names of Spina’s and Streck’s grandmothers, respectively (which pays homage to O4W Pizza’s Grandma Pie. Spina is the restauranteur behind O4W Pizza.)

What Now Atlanta first uncovered the name when plans this week were filed with the City of Atlanta to build out the 3,815-square-foot restaurant.

But the permit filing wasn’t a shoo-in for confirming the name.

The restaurant went through several name changes before landing on Nina and Rafi, according to sources close to the project.

Earlier this year Spina and Streck even filed a permit with the City of Atlanta for the concept under the name “Marigold” (said to be a “cover” during the planning process.)

An estimated $495,000 will be spent constructing the new eatery being designed by Smith Hanes Studio.

Nina and Rafi, at 659 Auburn Avenue NE, will be situated in the second phase of Studioplex in Old Fourth Ward and is expected to open mid-Summer 2018.

The new joint will serve pies from O4W Pizza and other Italian snacks, sandwiches, salads, and pasta, including vegan and gluten-free options, alongside a tight beverage program with a full bar.
