Developers recently submitted plans to the Athens Clarke County Planning Commission seeking a rezoning to accommodate the construction of a hotel, residential, retail, industrial, and office mixed-use development. “Pedestrian improvements, new surface parking and eventually a residential component,” to the main building, along with a separate hotel building at the southern end of the property, were also among additions addressed in the plans. The residences would consist of 100 two-bedroom dwellings and 100 one-bedroom dwellings.

While maintaining an industrial aesthetic, developers The Ardent Cos and Knotting Developments hope to open up space for flow and incorporate current standards for parking and landscaping. The completed General Time Athens project was originally slated to come to fruition in spring 2020, but developers continue to make improvements to the property. The conception of the General Time Athens began in 2015, with plans to ultimately develop a music venue, residential units, restaurants, retail, and offices, upon completion.

[Edited to include more info from the official proposed plans]

  1. Why do the plans need to be submitted to the state of Georgia?
Isn’t local approval all that’s needed for something like this?
