“We have had a great 15 year run in Grant Park, first as Stella Neighborhood Trattoria and then as Doc Chey’s Noodle House,” the post states. “As most of you know, the last 3 years have been brutal for the restaurant industry. Being in Grant Park made it even worse because nearby office workers (a significant portion of our lunch customers) vacated their office buildings for over a year, which made survival a real struggle. As COVID began to wane, we were faced with labor shortages and rapidly increasing product costs. In June 2022, we were devastated by the loss of my business partner, Melanie Vaughn, who was integral to the operation of Doc Chey’s Grant Park. All of this made operating a profitable business difficult and, at times, impossible.”

But the space won’t sit dark long. Starting July 8, 2023, “after a quick update,” Charles Wangan Earl of Sandwich franchisee — will open Chef Wang’s in the space, Chey wrote.

“You will see many of the same faces in the kitchen and dining room that you have become accustomed to you over the years at Doc Chey’s,” Chey wrote. “Please give Chef Wang’s a try. I think you will be pleased.”

Wang on Monday told What Now Atlanta he is “giving the staff (we are retaining 100% of the employees) a well-deserved paid break” while they renovate the interior and update the signage.

“I would like to personally thank every employee who worked at Doc Chey’s Grant Park and Stella and each and every guest who dined with us over the past 15 years,” Chey wrote. “I was and continue to be truly appreciative of every guest who walks through our doors because I know you have lots of choices in where to spend your dining dollars and you placed your trust in us. I hope this gratitude was evident whenever we met at the restaurant.”
