The store will be built at 1530 East Jackson Street, a site that was formerly occupied by Big Lots.
According to construction plans, the store will be 20,664 square feet. The scope of the work includes demolition, landscaping, signage, electrical, painting and plumbing.
Headquartered in Illinois, Aldi is a privately held company with more than 2,330 corporate-owned locations across the U.S. There are currently more than 70 stores in Georgia, including a newly opened one in Valdosta, a city in southern Georgia near the state’s border with Florida.
In August, the company announced plans to acquire hundreds of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores in the Southeast as part of its plans to expand its portfolio.
Aldi, known for low prices and streamlined shopping, is the fastest growing U.S. grocery chain in terms of quantity of stores.
