The franchise chain, which specializes in “doner kebabs,” roasted Mediterranean sandwiches filled with meat and vegetables, is replacing Yogli Mogli at 1403 Oxford Road NE in Emory Village.

Alex Bevel Jones and Josh Gentrup are the location’s co-franchisees.

“[Keba] has a very loyal following in Athens and we’re glad to bring the concept to Atlanta,” Jones told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview Tuesday.

“It’s going to go off like a bomb down here.”

Keba is taking a 2,700-square-foot space plus a patio sized for a handful of tables.

“We were looking for a new opportunity to get involved with the Atlanta food scene and we knew we wanted to be near a university,” Jones said on the decision to open in Emory Village.

Jones and Gentrup recently placed an AD with Craigslist looking to “hire all positions” and are “taking applications from anyone who feels they can add value to us.”

As for store two and three, Jones and Gentrup said they could open as many as 15 locations “in and around Atlanta.”

Keba has four existing locations making the first Atlanta outpost the brand’s fifth.

  1. Another franchise at Emory. Sad. Great local neighborhood has been taken over by franchise chains. Wierd to be right beside another boring bland franchise Zoe. Can’t this area get more creative. Need more Like Dave s subs, less suburbia bland chains. Open in Gwinett , Kenesaw , but need more local intown . Article says they basically refry French fries. Wow , how original

    1. Hey Seth, before you bash KEBA, why don’t you give it a try. One of the owners is a third generation Emory Grove resident. Let’s support our local merchants. The food is different and outstanding!

  2. Seth, it’s not just another franchise. I hope you’ll try it. Yes, they are expanding the business by building franchises but I would describe it as a unique sandwich shop that is (finally) branching out. I lived right next to the original one on Lumpkin Street and loved it. I’ve tried to find anything similar since leaving Athens and have found nothing close. When it started you had basically one choice to make: chicken, beef, or neither. Now they have a wider selection but I still go with the original sandwich (original sauce!) made with beef. Perhaps if it is closer and I can visit more often, I’ll finally branch out and try another menu item. …but then again, why mess with a good thing!? Can’t wait for the newest location to open!!

  3. When I lived in Athens I went to Keba regularly. When I moved back to the south side of Atlanta I would travel up there regularly (2 hour drive) just to get the sandwiches. An Atlanta location makes my heart happy.
