Torchy’s Tacos is planned for 1055 Howell Mill Road NW in suite 208, according to a recent building permit application filed with the City of Atlanta. The space is 4,043 square feet, and the scope of work includes new partitions, ceilings, finishes and fixtures, as well as a new railing for the existing patio.

The restaurant will be in the Star Metals District in West Midtown. It appears that the eatery is going into the Star Metals Offices building, which is also located at the property.

Mike Rypka founded Torchy’s Tacos in 2006 in Austin, Texas, as a food truck. There are now more than 100 locations across 14 states. The brand has experienced organic, customer-driven growth over the years, both in larger markets and smaller college towns. The company does not franchise and currently has no plans to.

The menu offers a variety of tacos (including breakfast tacos), as well as chips and dip and sides like street corn, rice and beans. The beverage menu includes margaritas and signature cocktails.

Torchy’s Tacos only uses napkins, cups and cutlery made from 100 percent renewable resources, and their used cooking oil is turned into fuel for cars, according to the company website.

It’s not yet clear when the new location will be open, but according to a job posting, the company is seeking a managing partner in Atlanta.
