The Music Room has succumbed to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Old Fourth Ward’s underground music venue over the weekend announced it “won’t be returning” to 327 Edgewood Avenue. “We have painfully been at the mercy of a global pandemic for months now and despite how hard we’ve tried, we simply cannot continue,” according to a post to The Music Room’s Facebook page Saturday. “We have poured all of our resources into trying to push on to live out our dreams and make it through this mess. But unfortunately that is not going to happen. At least not at this venue.”
The Music Venue and its undeniable storefront, fashioned after an old school boom box, had been a fixture on Edgewood Avenue for six years offering a full stage with live performances and DJs.
“…We could not have done this without the amazingly beautiful people that shared our vision and sought the same experience,” the post continues. “The souls that shared the desire to be one with the music and one with each other–without the [BS]. ‘Cos at the end of the day, that is what it is all really all about: me and you and the music. That shared experience is at the heart of what we love about this and The Music Room truly captured that in its essence.”
Edgewood SPKEZ, a cocktail bar hidden at the back of a pizzeria and restaurant Bone Lick Southern Kitchen, are also closed, according to the announcement. Both concepts were part of The Music Room which will host one last live stream on Sunday, September 13 from 2 p.m. to midnight.
