Rusty Taco, the 13-year-old brand that was founded in Dallas, TX, is set to open an outpost in Decatur at 163 Clairemont Ave with franchise group MBC Concessions at the helm, according to documents reviewed by What Now Atlanta and confirmed by MBC President and CEO, Justin Triplett. However, an opening date is still some ways away, as MBC is yet to begin its build-out.

Triplett was unable to provide further comment when reached by What Now Atlanta.

Nevertheless, this new Rusty Taco outpost will join the mixed-use Modera Decatur development, which calls for 194 apartment homes and approximately 24,500 square feet of retail across 2.14 acres.

News of Modera Decatur was first announced in August 2020, with a projected opening date of last fall. At the time, What Now Atlanta quoted Chase Beasely, a development associate for Mill Creek, the investor and operator behind the project, as saying, “We are really excited to expand our footprint to Decatur. This is our first community in this pocket of Atlanta, and we have strategically aligned our homes and amenities to provide a superior living experience in a location providing all of life’s comforts within a block.”

Since its founding a little more than a decade ago, Rusty Taco has gone through a number of ownership and name changes, being rebranded as R Taco in 2015 only to revert back to Rusty Taco three years later. Similarly, Buffalo Wild Wings purchased a majority stake in the company in 2014, which were subsequently acquired by Arby’s Restaurant Group some four years later, culminating in the creation of Inspire Brands. Then, in the waning days of 2022, Inspire Brands opted to sell Rusty Taco multi-brand operator Gala Capital Partners.

Despite all this, the one thing that’s remained consistent is the restaurant’s extensive menu of signature street tacos and all-day-breakfast tacos, which include BBQ Brisket, Cauliflower, the Texican, and Fried Chicken, as well as Chorizo Egg & Cheese, Black Bean Egg & Cheese, and Jalapeño Sausage Egg and Cheese.
