The enhancements, called the Auburn Avenue Historic and Cultural Information Project, will include the repair, update and installation of new, historical and cultural wayside signs along Auburn Avenue between Peachtree Street and Old Wheat Street, and beautification to the existing bridge underpass at Auburn Avenue and Interstate 75/85, according to the announcement.

“The enhancement is intended to improve the aesthetic quality of the existing bridge infrastructure and improve the pedestrian experience, while reflecting the history and culture of the surrounding community,” according to the announcement.

While instillation is expected to begin in late 2014, CAP and ADID want you to vote on one of three possible concepts for the improvement project.

Comments should be sent to [email protected]. And really speak your mind, ’cause the CAP and ADID are all ears! Feedback will be collected until January 31, 2014.

  1. Seems a waste of paint for any of these, as they’ll be defaced by graffiti and gang signs overnight. Instead, spend the money on much needed repairs to streets, etc. that will do some good.

  2. I’m partial to the blue neon. They have talked about lighting some of the Downtown Connector tunnels in neon and that would play off it nicely. But I like the murals of #1 and #3 better.

  3. Bendoo

Being a life long resident of Atlanta, a member of Wheat St. Baptist Church, and a member of the Board of Directors of Wheat St. Charitable Foundation, I like the lighting of #1 and #3, as it gives a lot illumination under the viaduct. But I like the theme of #2, as I am interpreting this painting to represent the marching and demonstrating that we did in the 1960’s for equality and justice for all.

  4. Please add the most light possible, 24 hours cameras for monitoring and signs to let everyone know the area is under constant surveillance. Police must WALK the area and not just sat in their cars during their shift. Have street cleaners to maintain the area just as they do at Disney World. Condemn the dilapidated structures to create new shops, restaurants, art galleries, museums, etc. to attract tourists and locals. Keep it clean, well lighted and safe and they will come!

    1. I agree with Mr. Bond 100%. You need to make sure there are high intensity lighting under that viaduct to make sure it is as safe as possibly can be.

  5. I think the mural of #2 is more representative of the area’s history, but I love the colors and scene in #3!

  6. I like the blue lighting a lot, but definitely prefer the 1st mural. It would be nice to see bigger images, it’s hard to see the detail of the murals…
