Owner of Metrofresh Midtown Harvesting Crisp New Concept — Mitchwich

All You MetroFreshuals: Get Excited!

For many new restaurants the idea of farm to table is cutting-edge. For MetroFresh owner and head chef Mitchell Anderson, farm to table has been a way of life since he first opened his Midtown based eatery on October 10, 2005 (coming up on the five year anniversary, 10/10/10). With the overwhelming success, Anderson is developing a new concept along with his executive chef, Bryan Kraatz.

MitchWich is the name of the new “gourmet boutique sandwich shop,” and will be similar to MetroFresh using only the finest, high quality and sometimes organic ingredients (in a quirky and creative space).

With plans to be open for breakfast and lunch daily, the set menu will include sandwiches, a couple of salads, and a few MetroFresh soups. Creating a boutique chain of gourmet sandwich shops, the initial MitchWich will open once the space is secured and financed, with a quick turnaround of opening two additional within an 18-month window. Anderson has been searching for two months to find the perfect flag for his new concept and the possible locations are widespread, though wanted within a 2-3 mile radius of MetroFresh : Downtown, West Midtown, Midtown, Decatur, East Atlanta, Brookhaven and Buckhead (practically Metro Atlanta).

Acting as owner, operator and head chef, when asked his plan for proper time allocation in handling the new project, Anderson says, “It’s called no sleep. No, I have a really great creative team in place including some of my current staff. My executive chef will act as the co-creative director in charge of menu creation, kitchen and quality control. I also have a CFO in place to handle finances.”

If MetroFresh is any indication, MitchWich will be boasting in its glory within minutes of opening. Also, if your a MetroFreshual, your frequent diner card can be used at both locations!

  1. 3 of us went to to Metro Fresh a few months ago, for the first time. The Midtown location was pretty, food was presented well, but all 3 of us got food poisoning. Very ill – towards the end of the meal, dizzy, nauseaus from the salads. Husband and friend refuse to return…

Unfortunate – since we all love salads and would like a “go-to place” in Midtown.

  2. I’m excited! I love little places like MetroFresh and I’m sure I’ll love MitchWitch. My husband and I have eaten at MetroFresh and we both loved it. We did not get food poisoning.

  3. Please be careful in making claims of food poisoning in restaurants. Food poisoning symptoms do not develop for hours after you’ve eaten. Unless your meal at Metrofresh lasted three or four hours, any nausea you felt while you were there was not due to food poisoning. More details about specific symptoms can be found here:
    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001652.htm

If you feel you have been a victim of food poisoning at a restaurant, please do the responsible thing and contact the business to warn them about a possible contamination. Making invalid, anonymous claims on the internet about food poisoning can have an inappropriate effect on an innocent business owner.

  4. Having been a devoted “MetroFreshual” soon after it opened, I find this not only highly unlikely, based on my own experiences, but disturbing that you would post such an open-ended post. Small businesses have enough trouble staying open these days.

If this indeed did occur from something you consumed at MetroFresh, by all means, make contact, as Darin mentioned. I fully appreciate your spouse and friend’s wariness of returning, but I hope you will, and post a follow-up comment.

  5. My wife and I LOVE MetroFresh! Some of the best salads and soups around – not to mention some great desserts (not sure if they still get cupcakes from the Atlanta Cupcake Factory, but those are the shizzle as well). We haven’t been in a while since I lost my job, but it is definitely one of our favorite spots to grab a bite in Midtown. I hope they open somewhere along Peachtree on the Midtown Mile! West Midtown would be good too! Good luck on the new concept – if it’s anything like the original in terms of freshness and quality, it will be a winner, I’m sure!
