Green Beans ATL is taking over a space formerly occupied by architectural lighting design firm Gabler Youngston.

Co-owner Christian Green said they will be roasting all of their own ethically sourced, fair-trade beans, with the roaster being a centerpiece of the shop. Expect your classic coffee drinks, as well as a wide selection of tea. The food menu will include light fare like sandwiches and salads, as well as baked goods from Engelman’s Bakery.

Green isn’t new to the food and beverage space; he was formerly the beverage manager for Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta. This is his first time opening a coffee shop, an idea that he and his wife, Anne, had been cooking up for awhile.

“Over the years, my wife and I have talked about opening something, whether it was a restaurant, cafe or some kind of bar,” he said. “We’ve had our eye on this building for years.”

When the space finally became available, a coffee shop seemed like the perfect answer, with the operating hours of such a business aligning well with their lives as parents.

“It was natural fit for our lives and our schedule,” he said.

Having two kids in school, and with Anne’s career in education, a big priority of the shop is taking care of teachers and supporting schools. Green Beans ATL will open at 6:30 a.m. daily in order to be open early enough for educators to swing by before heading to the classroom. The shop will be open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.

Right now, Green Beans ATL is in the midst of permitting, with a target opening date of February 2024. Until then, the Greens will be deep in the shop’s build-out and finalizing the menu.

“We’re not backed by anyone,” Green said. “It’s purely me and my wife, no financial backers. It’s a labor of love.”
