Morelli’s Ice Cream Finalizes Virginia-Highland Plans

Look for an opening in the former Yogli Mogli space in early-2021.

Plans for a Morelli’s Gourmet Ice Cream in Virginia-Highland are one step closer to materializing. After confirming with What Now Atlanta in September that negotiations were underway for a new location of the hometown ice cream purveyor in the neighborhood, Co-Owner Donald Sargent Monday said he has secured the space formerly home to Yogli Mogli for the new Morelli’s. The freestanding building, at 1002 North Highland Avenue NE, housed the froyo chain since 2011.

Sargent said an opening is likely in late-January, early-February in Virginia-Highland. Morelli’s, which was founded in East Atlanta in 2008, co-created by Sargent and his wife, Clarissa Morelli, also has an outpost coming soon to the Upper Westside. Sargent wouldn’t comment on the timeline for that opening but a source familiar with Chattahoochee Food Works — the food hall-style development that will house Morelli’s alongside other vendors — said the project is delayed, likely pushing the debut of Morelli’s into early-2021 as well.

Morelli’s in 2009 was named one of the best ice cream shops in America by Bon Appétit Magazine. Flavors include raspberry coke, butter pecan, spiced chai, ginger lavender, and chocolate cheesecake. Morelli’s also offers ice cream cakes and pies. In addition to its East Atlanta storefront, at 749 Moreland Ave SE #102B, Morelli’s can be found inside Farm Burger Dunwoody and is served out of the We Juice It in the airport.
