Mikkelson’s Market is the latest venture from Emily and Jen Chan, Rough Draft Atlanta first reported.

The market is expected to offer specialty plates, grab-and-go food items and other provisions, from savory (like smørrebrød, open-faced sandwiches) to sweet (like aebleskivers, a puffy dessert reminiscent of a pancake).

Beverages like root beer floats, milkshakes and slushies will be served at a counter, and they are also considering selling wine, according to the news outlet. The menu is expected to change with the seasons.

The name of the shop and the food it will serve pays tribute to Emily Chan’s late father, Eric Mikkelson, who was a restaurateur, and her family’s Danish heritage.

“There’s just something about passing down a legacy and knowledge and recipes in families,” she told Rough Draft Atlanta.

Mikkelson’s Market is expected to open this summer on Flat Shoals Avenue. The site in Reynoldstown, on the east side of Atlanta, used to be the Urban Market convenience store.

Restaurant, supper club and catering company JenChan’s opened several years ago in Cabbagetown, serving pizza and Chinese food for lunch and dinner.
