Lease for European coffee house to be ‘in-hand by Monday’ for Midtown location.
Café Intermezzo, a European Coffee house, is opening on Peachtree Street in Midtown.
Brian Olson, owner of the European coffee shop, opened the original Dunwoody location in 1979. Café Intermezzo Midtown will be the fifth location for the coffee house if everything goes according to plan, Olson told What Now Atlanta over the phone Friday.
“We are working on signing the lease this afternoon,” Olson said. “We hope to have the lease in-hand by Monday at the latest.”
Located at 1018 Peachtree Street in the 1010 Midtown Condominum building of the 12th and Midtown development, Café Intermezzo will be located between Bank of America and the entrance to the condos.
The midtown location will look and feel like the Dunwoody location and is slated to open April, 2012.
“The feel, charm, vibrancy and intensity of traffic along the Midtown mile is a perfect fit for [Café Intermezzo],” Olson said.
For us, Café Intermezzo’s arrival will make visiting the 1010 building worthwhile — ‘casue as it stands, their current restaurant line-up blows.

This is the best news I’ve heard in a while. I’ll be there daily – just wish I didn’t have to wait nearly a year.
Still missing Chocolate Pink, but this will be pretty awesome for Midtown. Any news on the Apple store for the SE corner at 1010?
This will fit perfect here. Hope they have a lot of outdoor seating on the sidewalk!
Will be a good addition for 1010 and hopefully they plan to have a patio to increase business. I do like Piola Pizza under 1010, one of my favorite restaurants in the area.
Never been to the Dunwoody location, but assuming it’s going to be open late like the one on Peachtree, I think this will be a good addition to the neighborhood. Despite being a chain, it’ll bring a unique environment to the neighborhood, which I would imagine anyone would welcome.
Urbanist, this is a locally owned European Cafe, not a Starbuck’s. Don’t really consider it a chain, but a local business, with a few locations. Only drawback, it’s expensive as hell.
A great addition and just a couple blocks away! I can’t wait.

perfect. a much-needed addition to this area! I dont know what the Dunwoody location is like, but if it’s anything like the location in Brookwood/South Buckhead, this will be a perfect fit for Midtown in both the day and night. Does that make the building almost all leased, except for the other corner of 1010? Not sure if there are any other storefronts, but I would be interested to find out.
Also- did anybody else hear about the announcement of another building as part of this development directly behind 1010 building on crescent? I believe it is to be build in the parking lot across from RiRa, but am not completely sure… can anyone confirm that? I love all the development, but I just hope it doesn’t get rid of all the low-rise buildings on crescent and juniper that give it a lot of personality. Front Page news patio is a perfect place for an afternoon drink!
Urbanist – You were thisclose to a positive comment. You had to stick “chain” in there. Technically, you can refer to any business with more than one location a “chain”, but really? As another commenter wrote, it’s locally owned, operated, etc…
Fellini’s is a chain too…but so yummy.
Looking forward to this new addition, hopefully will actually come to fruition compared to STK or the rumored ZARA and Apple stores.
@ Jason/AJ: multiple locations, including one in the Atlanta airport = chain. Every chain is local somewhere. Oh, and – expensive as hell? Perhaps…if you’re used to eating McDonald’s.
There’s another way to do things, to avoid the “chain” stigma. For example, the guys behind Top Flr didn’t open up another Top Flr on Edgewood, they opened up Sound Table. They’re opening up a spot on 905 Juniper, and it’s not going to be identical to Top Flr or Sound Table. That requires originality and imagination…get it?
Cafe Intermezzo on Peachtree is lovely, but I haven’t been there in years because of their consistently abominable service. I wonder if they’ve remedied that.
Well Café Intermezzo’s coffee does beat Starbucks, hands down.. and you can’t beat the atmosphere. I’m glad they’re opening more so they’re more accessible. Dee 🙂
I love cafe intermezzo. I think it’s great for people who are in walking distance. Otherwise you can just go to another location that’s a couple of miles in either direction on Peachtree. I wonder why another location is opening so close to the others? Especially since the brookwood location is awful. Like Allison Wunderland I haven’t been in so long because of the bad service and inconsistency. I hope Brian Olsen plans to better the locations he has first before opening a new one.
