“Black Coffee’s new home will be at The Vivian,” Black Coffee ATL owner Carl Northrop told What Now Atlanta.

The cafe will be about the same size as the original location, but with an additional outdoor patio space that links to the BeltLine. According to the building permit application, the space for the cafe is 841 square feet.

Black Coffee ATL will be opening at The Vivian the weekend of Oct. 21, 2023. It will serve the coffee drinks customers have come to know and love, in addition to the seasonal fall menu. Northrop said they will also be bringing back their open mic nights this fall.

The new location should ease some of the parking issues that came up during their time in Castleberry Hill, Northrop said, with many customers who didn’t live in the area making the drive to the coffee shop.

“We’ve listened to a lot of feedback of where our customer base was coming from,” he said. “People drive, and that’s why our parking lot fills up.”

Black Coffee ATL first opened at 131 Walker Street SW in December 2021. At the time, it was the first coffee shop in the area. Now, with the end of the lease and several more concepts in the works for Northrop, it’s the right time to close its doors, he said.

“This served the purpose of getting our name out there,” Northrop said. “We’re at a place with the other places where we need the equipment we have. It makes sense to move over.”

Northrop is part of the team behind Common Grounds Coffee Collective coming to Underground Atlanta that was announced last year. He told What Now Atlanta it should be open by the end of November.

Northrop is also working on a new business in partnership with a local bakery and another coffee concept with more of a late-night vibe called Langston’s Cafe.
