Multiple locations are planned for The Barista and Baker, including one at 133 E Court Square in Downtown Decatur and one at 2274 Azalea Drive in Lawrenceville.

The team behind the concept includes Shane Quillin of Sugar Shane’s and Carl Northrop of Black Coffee ATL. Quillin described the business to What Now Atlanta as “Black Coffee and Sugar Shane’s merging under one roof.”

“It made sense to pair these two together,” he said. “We’ve had a great relationship since day one.”

Known for its gourmet cookies, Sugar Shane’s has three locations (Midtown, Sandy Springs and Ponce City Market). Black Coffee ATL recently announced plans to close their Castleberry Hill location and open on the BeltLine. The Barista and Baker is one of several concepts in the works for Black Coffee ATL.

Quillin said The Barista and Baker will have the vibes of a coffee shop or neighborhood hangout. Decatur will also have a cocktail lounge feel, with a large L-shaped bar and plans to eventually serve alcohol.

“I’ve coined it cookies, coffee and cocktails,” he described.

The Barista and Baker will feature many of the classic Sugar Shane’s items (like cookies and brownies), with some new treats geared toward breakfast to go along with the coffee shop theme (like banana bread, pumpkin breads and muffins), along with some exclusive offerings and curated cookie/beverage pairings.

The Decatur and Lawrenceville stores are both under construction, with Decatur nearing completion at a space formerly occupied by Starbucks. That store is likely to open in November, with Lawrenceville following shortly after.
