“Alta toro” is a Spanish phrase that can be translated to “high bull.” The phrase is often associated with bullfighting, which is a traditional spectacle in Spanish culture. In bullfighting, it is used to describe a bull that is particularly strong and powerful, known for its high energy and aggressive behavior in the ring. The phrase also is used often to connote strength, power, and dominance in other contexts.

“I know Alta Toro is going to be an amazing restaurant for Atlanta,” said Ayman Kamel, principal. “We are going to excite our guests with all the modern Latin cuisines and great methods of Latin cooking.”

Alta Toro’s menu will explode with modern Latin American flavors. “We are known for presenting great, modern cuisine,” says Kamel. “Latin America has so many unique areas, and each one of these countries has extraordinary dishes that we can incorporate into this restaurant.”

Chef Rodney Smith, culinary director for K5 Hospitality, will curate Alta Toro’s menu. A team of chefs will work with Smith to develop a creative and bright compilation of Latin American flavors. Tapas-style dishes will reflect the broad spectrum of all Latin American cuisine, ensuring that there will be a taste for everyone. Kamel hopes that guests will try as many dishes as possible and return frequently to explore the menu.

The idea of creating a modern Latin American concept was easy for Kamel. He notes that each country is different, and unique flavors are what drew him to the Latin American culture and cuisine. “I feel that the great people of Atlanta deserve this restaurant presented in such a unique way,” he notes. Kamel plans to draw in guests from the sidewalk with enticing sights and smells to stimulate all the senses, whether it is sizzling paella cooked on the patio or lively salsa dancing to create memorable dining experiences.

Live, festive music and exciting programming will be an integral part of the Alta Toro dining experience, and the team behind Alta Toro will consider such programming while planning the space. The unique design of Alta Toro will be spearheaded by plexus r+d, the architecture and interior design studio behind 5Church Buckhead. Kamel and his team will travel to targeted galleries in Latin America to handpick stunning art pieces, a staple of the 5Church restaurants. Local Atlanta artists also will contribute signature pieces to make the space a cultural destination. Warm, inviting lighting will complement the impressive art pieces, and a patio will welcome beautiful weather with flexible garage doors for more inclement weather.

Kamel and the team are very familiar with the Midtown community through their established restaurant 5Church Midtown, which is located just a few blocks away. Kamel noted that each day, the area changes through new development, which will soon include Alta Toro. Plus, Kamel lives in Midtown and is confident that Alta Toro will fit in perfectly with the community. “The Midtown neighborhood is rich with a diverse crowd. I am blessed with having an amazing team that enjoys creativity daily. Always thinking, always evolving. Alta Toro will be a destination.”

He expects guests will be enticed by the whole package of live music, amazing food, perfect ambiance, and great energy. “We want to make sure that we touch all of our guests’ senses while enjoying the many aspects of Alta Toro,” he adds. “We want them to have so much fun that they will not want to leave.”

Alta Toro will be located at 33 Peachtree Place NE at the corner of West Peachtree in Atlanta and will be open for dinner, lunch, and brunch. Valet service will be available for ease of parking. Follow Alta Toro on FacebookInstagram, and TikTok for more information.
