Slack’s Hoagie Shack, a franchise offering Philly fare including hoagies and steaks, salads, wings, etc., is opening at Town Brookhaven.

— Mango’s Cuban Cuisine has opened at 5950 North Point Parkway in Alpharetta. They are offering a 60 percent off discount on Active Diner! Also, check out their website at non-existent DOT com.

Gigi’s Cupcakes, a bakery franchise that prides themselves in using only the finest ingredients: Saigon cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla, farm fresh creamy butter, hand selected fruits and nuts, along with the smoothest cream cheese, has opened its first Georgia store at 1140 Hammonds Drive, Sandy Springs. Please take note that “each cupcake is baked with loving care,” which of course is why we’ll drive out to Sandy Springs to get one.

— Chef Oltarsh, the former chef at Murphy’s in Virginia Highland who opened (annoying music warning if you’re enticed to click the link we provided) Lobby Bar and Bistro at Atlantic Station’s TWELVE Hotel in 2005, has returned offering a more approachable and affordable menu; one that is more suitable to the Atlantic Station demographic.

Not that we have to remind you about how we feel towards many of the restaurant’s at Atlantic Station and their march towards an unforgiving cliff (wink wink, cough cough… deathmarch anyone?), Lobby has made a brilliant move and the new menu has some delicious fare worth trying.

  1. Your negativity continues to amaze me even though I expect it. I’m not sure if your desire is negativity or sarcasm, but it comes across as just boring negativity. Not sure if this post will even remain…

Gigi’s cupcakes are great. No, you’re not going to drive from midtown to Sandy Springs for them, but if you’re out here (and plenty of people are out here), give it a try. As for Atlantic Station – it’s as if you have a DESIRE to see it fail. Is Atlantic Station exactly what I’d want if I designed it? Not by a long shot. But do I want to see businesses fail? Not by a long shot.

I will say, you do great work. You must have some great sources because it is nice to learn about new businesses opening or the unfortunate closing of other businesses. I just wish the negativity would be lessened (i.e. removed).

    1. aj — your feedback is much appreciated and your continued commenting is much obliged. and please know we will ALWAYS publish comments unless it is offensive in a racial slur kind of way, etc.

we’re not trying to come off as negative. sarcastic? yes. honest? big time. if you follow us on twitter (@whatnowatlanta) you’ll see that we also praise things and businesses who exceed our expectations.

lets face it. mediocrity in atlanta is all too common. life is too short to give false impressions or a false sense of hope. people will be far more successful when they’re told the truth. by no means do we want or desire for any business to fail but we are not here to butter people up (and call them biscuits).

agree or disagree, thanks for reading and we’re honored that you’re HONEST with us.

      best regards,

      cjs
