$43,985.57 in Unpaid Taxes Has Us Doubtful

Croaker’s Spot, a seafood restaurant specializing in “nouveau soul cuisine,” originally opened two locations in Richmond Virginia, late 2009.

With plans for the third location to open on Edgewood Avenue here in Atlanta this past February, months of delay left us overly suspicious (its in our blood).

Further research led to the discovery that the original Croaker’s Spot located at 119 East Leigh Street in Richmond closed in February of this year, just before the Atlanta location was due for their grand opening.

The reason for their sudden closure was an unpaid $43,985.57 in back taxes according to city documents. Unable to front the bill, Croaker’s Spot owners had no choice but to cease operation.

The Croaker’s Spot in the Manchester district in Richmond is still in business, but we are confident that the sudden closure at their original location and their money problems with the city of Richmond are the foremost reasons for the delay here in Atlanta.

We’ll be very surprised if the owners of Croakers Spot get it together to finance their Atlanta location and if Mayor Kasim Reed is willing to put up with their irresponsibility in paying taxes (on second thought, Gidewon nightclub or “SPI Club,” hasn’t had any trouble bullying the city, why shouldn’t Croaker’s Spot?).

  1. There was a Croaker Spot in Charlotte N.C. It is now closed because of the same issues. The owner owes his only investor over 10,000 and long over due interest. With no notice the restaurant was shut down, & he is now no where to be found. Due to lack of communication this issue is being further investigated.

  2. Latest update on Croaker’s Spot Richmond, Va., Atlanta and Charlotte. The tax debt has been paid in full and yes the Manchester location in Richmomd is thriving, not surprising. As for the Charlotte location, it closed due to random break ins and the area was not ready for what was being offered. As for the investor in Charlotte, his risk is no more or less important that the owners. Those are the risks you take, however, his investment is being paid back as we speak. Atlanta, will happen. The true story is that Croaker’s Spot Brands has linked up with several developers that are now purchasing locations to continue to open the ultra popular brand locations. Petersburg, Va. will be open in August. The company is looking to purchase the property location in Atlanta with developer where renovations had already began. That’s if current property owner is willing to sell. If not, other areas in Atlanta will be targeted. Developers are looking at locations in Memphis, Norfolk, Va. and Washington, D. C. currently. Stay tuned……………..
