Special: Chicken Bone Salad Sandwich

Imagine my surprise when I bit into Ria’s delicious looking rosemary chicken salad sandwich and came up with a chicken bone the size of my middle finger. I’m not exaggerating.

My dining companions were stunned. When I pointed it out to the server, his eyes widened, declared it unacceptable, and snagged it away before I could take a tweet pic.

The size of the chicken bone compared to the size of the sandwich was so over the top that it begged the question: was it an accident? We thought not. Someone in the kitchen was pissed off at the owners. Its chicken salad, for God’s sake. This wasn’t an accident.

Fine, we get it, people make mistakes, even big ones. I could almost forgive the chicken bone if it wasn’t accompanied with the most dreadful service we’ve experienced this year, and we eat out a lot.

At first, they ungraciously offered half-off my substituted dish. Then, someone in the back came to their senses and comped the entire table, but the management didn’t have enough sense to come and talk to us or apologize.

Less this turn into a restaurant review or bashing, the point, and I do have one, is that even restaurants that ordinarily serve great food can make big mistakes and compound them with little ones. Ria, you’re better than this.

  1. I was excited when your site launched because I thought I’d found a reliable, objective resource for newsworthy happenings in Atlanta’s restaurant, retail and real estate markets. Instead (and increasingly), the site has shown itself to be little more than an occasional blog from what appears to be one or two – or, maybe, three? — authors, who use the space for biased and petty commentary and complaints as often as noteworthy announcements. The recent Krispy Kreme and Ria’s Bluebird entries are the most obvious examples of this disappointing trend. If you don’t find some consistent editorial standards, those of us who read the site might soon stop, and find ourselves asking, “Whatever happened to What Now?”

  2. Consider that they MAY have left the bone in as PROOF that it was real chicken? Hey, it could happen. It seems like it was a large enough bone that they were not worried about it catching in your teeth or anything, so other than a kitchen mistake that has to be the reason..

    I’m just sayin….

  3. I couldn’t agree with M W more!! Please stick to the original objective of this website’s intent, and please do not turn it into worthless reads. The Krispy Kreme blog was pushing it, but now do we get to hear about everytime there is bad service. Take it up with the owner, don’t put it on your blog. I can visit The Vent on ajc.com if I want this crap.

  4. Oh for crying out loud! You found a *chicken* bone in chicken salad. BFD. A comp of the dish would have been fine. The whole table comped was above and beyond. The bone affected your dining companions how exactly?

  5. Seriously, what is up with all the recent whining?? You got your free food, so move on. No need to post something so petty.

  6. Really. I agree with M.W.’s comment. Your chicken bone is not news worthy. If I wanted to read crybaby rants I’d go to Yelp.
