The closure of the beer hall in Poncey-Highland was announced in an Instagram post. The adjacent eatery, The Best Sandwich Shop, will remain open.

Chef and restaurateur Shaun Doty opened the beer hall earlier this year. The space was formerly occupied by Moe’s Southwest Grill.

Doty told What Now Atlanta they will lean into working on a new concept in January after enjoying the holidays. They’re aiming for something more approachable than the German food and beverages that The Wurst Beer Hall focused on – cuisine that they still love, but is maybe too niche for the spot, Doty said. They’ve also discussed using the space to expand The Best Sandwich Shop, which has been well-received since its opening.

No matter what they decide on to replace The Wurst Beer Hall, they definitely want to embrace and celebrate the vibe of the Poncey-Highland area – independent, free-spirited, and locally owned and operated.

“We have a tremendous enthusiasm for the neighborhood,” Doty said.

Doty is behind several other current and former concepts in metro Atlanta, including the Southern-inspired eatery Bantam + Biddy.
