The Sleepy Potato Expanding With Southwest Atlanta Restaurant

Expect an early-2020 opening in space previously occupied by Wing Station.

A second location of The Sleepy Potato will be coming to the Cleveland Avenue and Sylvan Road corridor in the Perkerson Neighborhood of Southwest Atlanta, owner Mario Johnson confirmed with What Now Atlanta by email.

The restaurant will replace the now-shuttered Wing Station, at 757 Cleveland Ave SW.

In a celebratory Facebook message shared on The Sleepy Potato’s original Vine City page, Johnson posted pictures of the cleared out Wing Station along with what appears to be him signing the lease for the space.

“[I’ve] been through a lot to build my brand The Sleepy Potato and came in contact with some wrong people along the way,” Johnson said.

“But thank God he has allowed me to be in a place to do it on my own [with] no partners, no investors; just hard work and sacrifice. This is my second official location.”

Johnson in 2018 turned his MoJo’s Motown Eatery off M.L.K Jr. Drive in Vine City into a Sleepy Potato.

His first fast-casual eatery served “infused XXL loaded potatoes with the works” with toppings that include chicken, lamb, steak, shrimp, salmon, and vegetables.

Breakfast items, not available in the Greenbriar Mall or South Fulton Sleepy Potato locations (neither are affiliated with Johnson), were added to the menu.

The menu at the Cleveland Avenue location is expected to be similar and a full build-out and transformation of the space will push the opening into 2020.
