The owners of Taco Mac have acquired The Vortex, a restaurant and bar with locations in Midtown and Little Five Points, Rough Draft Atlanta reports.
The Vortex co-owner Michael Benoit said that he and his siblings were ready to move on after 30 years of ownership, saying that “the bar and restaurant trade is really a younger person’s game.”
Benoit also owns Bone Garden Cantina, which was not part of the deal, with his wife. The Laughing Skull Lounge, a comedy club located in The Vortex’s Midtown location, was also not included in the deal.
The Vortex is a 21+ establishment known for “serving burgers and booze since 1992,” with a side of cheeky principles (including declaring the restaurant an “Idiot-Free Zone.”)
Taco Mac CEO Harold Martin Jr. assured the Benoits “that the legacy of the Vortex would be preserved,” according to Rough Draft Atlanta.
The Vortex joins a portfolio of Atlanta concepts acquired by the team behind Taco Mac. Martin, Bryan Rand, Michael Bodnar and John Michael Bodnar also became the owners of Mary Mac’s Tea Room in fall 2020.
