It will open on the ground level of the Sixty 11th Apartments, at 60 11th Street NE.

“Coming very, very soon to Atlanta,” Sam’s of San Francisco in mid-July posted to its Facebook page.

“…we are opening in the brand new 60 11th street building in midtown…”

Sam’s of San Francisco was once referred to as having one of the “top three burgers in the world” by the late Anthony Bourdain on his show The Layover.

Mike El Shawa, nicknamed “Sam,” ran the original San Francisco outpost, at 618 Broadway, from 1970 until his passing in 2016.

Fadi, Hani, and Emad El Shawa, Sam’s three sons, now run the business and are responsible for the expansion into Atlanta.

“Sam’s of San Francisco will be a hybrid spinoff of what we currently have in San Fran,” Fadi El Shawa told What Now Atlanta in an email.

At least 50 burgers and over 100 different deli-style sandwiches will be on the menu including vegan and gluten-free options.

On the beverage side of things, expect 50 different San Francisco and local IPAs, and wine mostly sourced from the Napa and Sonoma regions.

“We will fine-tune the menu as we go.”

A permit application last week was submitted to the City of Atlanta to build out the planned, 1,544-square-foot restaurant.

The opening is slated for late-September, early-October.
