‘Elevate: Art Above Unerground’ takes over Downtown’s real estate landscape.

Comfort Suites at the Underground Atlanta campus — formerly a Georgia State University dormitory — has been covered from top to bottom with Atlanta’s tallest mural, according to Michelle Lawrence, director of marketing and strategic planning for Underground.

“The mural is also one of the tallest in the world,” Lawrence told What Now Atlanta Friday.

Painted by artists from Spain, the mural is one of several art works that recently appeared on scattered Downtown buildings as part of a 66-day, temporary art project sponsored by The City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program called “Elevate: Art Above Underground.”

“Beyond the exhibit, I personally hope we can keep as much of the art as manageably possible,” Lawrence said. “It’s a good fit for Underground Atlanta.”

Elevate will be exhibiting from Aug. 26 through Oct. 30, 2011.

  1. I’m tired of these mural projects. There are already too many in the city and they are generally poorly executed. One or two are great but it starts to look like graffiti pretty quickly. Maybe Mark Toro will take over Underground and fix up the dump like he is doing with Atlantic Station.
