Fung Mei To Close After 33 Years, Owner to Open Cultivate Food & Coffee in The Battery Atlanta

Fung Mei Chinese Restaurant is closing its doors after 33 years, Owner Henry Han, who took over the Duluth restaurant after his father passed away, told What Now Atlanta this week.

“This incredible journey has finally come to an end,” Han said. “From our family and staff at Fung Mei we want to thank everyone that has shared a memory with us the last 33 years. We will be back!”

Han said “somewhere down the road I will reopen Fung Mei again,” but in the meantime, the restaurateur is opening a franchised location of Cultivate Food & Coffee in The Battery Atlanta this summer.

“After his dad, the original owner of Fung Mei passed away, Henry was looking for a new direction in the food industry,” Johnny Liu, founder of Cultivate and sister concept Cafe at Pharr, told What Now Atlanta. “This location will debut our coffee + bar concept and we’re super excited to have a presence at the Braves Battery!”

Liu said the restaurant should open on or before All-Star Weekend in July “if MLB isn’t still locked out!”

“The Battery Atlanta continues to evolve and provide an enhanced experience to our guests with every new tenant that we welcome,” Jeremy Strife, Braves Development Company executive vice president of development, said in a press release. “We are pleased to announce that the popular Cultivate concept will join the development…”

Cultivate Food & Coffe is a brunch and coffeehouse concept “built on a foundation of fresh farm-to-table culinary principles, customer service, and providing an aesthetically positive experience for guests,” according to a press release this week. The 5,341 square-foot space will be located below OrthoAtlanta and will offer dietary-friendly choices including vegan and gluten-free options along with a dinner menu and full bar.

In addition, YogaSix is planned for The Battery Atlanta, Braves Development Company announced this week. YogaSix which will be located in Suite 1120 offering a variety of yoga classes that encompass everything from deep stretching to stress relief to high-intensity training.
