As its name suggests, the new retailer carries technology that might be considered “dead” in the era of the iPhone and Artificial Intelligence, like walkmans and VHS tapes.

Dead Tech is situated in the Selig-owned “Morningside Strip Center” that houses Smith’s Olde Bar, at 1588 Piedmont Avenue NE.

While vinyl records seem to be at the focus of Dead Tech, its long list of technology you didn’t know you needed includes CDs, laserdiscs, floppies, boomboxes, microcassettes, VCRs, and VHS tapes.

Some of the retailer’s more practical tech includes receivers, amps, speakers, synthesizers, microphones, and home theatre systems.

Dead Tech’s grand opening on Saturday, July 20 is going on until 10 p.m.

The first 25 purchases come with a free t-shirt. There will also be cupcakes from Highland Bakery and balloons for kids.

Its hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 8 .m.
