The barbecue restaurant will open a new production facility, at 2914 White Boulevard, to support its catering business in particular.

“We have outgrown our capacity here on Clairmont,” David Roberts, owner, and chef at Community Q told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in an email Wednesday.

“On busy catering days we sell so much product ahead of time, we cannot produce enough to sell ‘over the counter’ and have to close early.”

The new 3,200-square-foot space, 800 of which will be walk-in cooler, will handle all delivered catering orders, full-service events off-site, as well as pre-orders that customers can pick-up if the location is more convenient.

Community Q’s production facility at the end of 2017 received the necessary permits to begin the buildout. The building permit process took 14 months, Roberts said.

“Dekalb County is a wild card with stuff like this.”

Since the barbecue restaurant first opened its Decatur doors eight years ago, at 1361 Clairmont Road, business has grown 10 to 15 percent every year, Roberts said.

“We consider ourselves lucky every day.”

With that kind of success, WNA asked if future locations were in the cards.

The short answer is “yes.”

Opening new Community Qs would be “easy.” It’s staffing the restaurants “that will be the challenge.”

“The systems and procedures for running the restaurant are easy to replicate. That being said, I’ll gather the staff, then open the stores.”
