Shell used to operate a gas station on the land where the new Circle K will be constructed and fencing has gone up at the site as crews await the necessary approvals to go vertical. The land was listed for lease in 2016 and was taken off the market in 2018, according to Loopnet.

Loring Design Group, whose portfolio includes other Circle K locations, is listed on the application as the project’s architect.

Circle K was started in Texas in 1951 by Fred Hervey. The chain eventually grew into new Mexico and Arizona. By 1975, Circle K had more than 1,00 locations.

They started franchising in 1999, and now there are Circle K gas station and convenience store locations all over the world, including Norway and Denmark. Their website lists about 14 locations in Atlanta, with soon-to-open sites at 448 Boulevard SE, 356 Boulevard NE, 1111 Moreland Avenue SE, and 575 Chappell Road NW.
