The “first stand-alone restaurant” for Chick-fil-A is set to reopen January 11 with the chain’s most state-of-the-art building.

The quick-service chicken eatery, at 2340 N Druid Hills Road NE, temporarily shuttered last year after 32 years to undergo a complete rebuild to bring the Chick-fil-A up-to-date.

The restaurant initially opened in April 1986 and was run by corporate for the first few years to evaluate the design and its impact on the overall customer experience, according to a press release Monday.

The chain was looking to shift its core growth strategy from malls to stand-alone locations where Chick-fil-A could expand its hours of business.

The building orientation was completely reconfigured to improve customer ease and traffic flow efficiency in the parking lot and drive-thru with both entrances now located in the back.

The interior of the building includes a “heritage restaurant design” with a reconfigured dining room that seats 102, a two-story, indoor playground area, Chick-fil-A One mobile ordering pickup available through the dual drive-thru or inside, a kitchen with the newest design, and a dual drive-thru merging into a single pick up and payment lane that can handle upwards of 200 cars an hour.

Operator Greg Mapoles is hosting a community celebration for the grand reopening that will include giving upwards of 100 adults the chance to win free Chick-fil-A for a year and a children’s book drive to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

“The First 100” party will officially begin in the restaurant parking lot the day before the grand opening, on Jan. 10 beginning at 6 a.m.

The opening is one of two occurring in metro Atlanta on Jan. 11 with the other one located in Braselton at 2600 Old Winder Hwy., with Operator Brandon LaMarque also hosting a First 100 campout and children’s book drive for West Jackson Elementary School.

Both community events are open to guests residing in specific zip codes surrounding each restaurant.

The North Druid Hills reopening is one of two new rebuilds and three new restaurants opening in metro Atlanta the first two months of the year.

Along with the Jan. 11 openings are the projected Jan. 18 Vine City location in Westside Atlanta, the Jan. 25 opening in North Decatur and the February reopening of the Northridge restaurant.
