To-Go Eatery, Casseroles, Slated For Expansion, Renovation as Business Booms

While many of the city's eateries are on life support amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, Casseroles, designed with to-go in mind, is thriving.

Morningside’s Casseroles restaurant is planning a significant expansion and renovation, according to a permit recently filed with the City of Atlanta. Plans call for “partial demolition, new partitions, doors, ceilings, finishes, and fixtures,” totalling roughly $50,000 in construction costs.

Casseroles Owner Betsy McKay confirmed the plans in an email to What Now Atlanta (WNA) this week but canceled an interview concerned the additional publicity would negatively affect the business as it tries to keep up with growing demand. “We are so busy … by the end of the day, we are usually out of food.”

While many of Atlanta’s restaurants are closing amid financial hardships brought on by the novel coronavirus, McKay’s Casseroles, designed with a to-go model since its first debuted in 2011, has met the moment.

Located at 1393 North Highland Avenue NE, the business specializes in to-go meals, which are offered in frozen or refrigerated containers that can feed up to 10 people. Menu items include meatloaf and potatoes, herb-roasted chicken and biscuits, shrimp and grits with andouille sausage, and whoopie pies.

  1. yum yum – good find Caleb! Any idea on price range? Will these be full sized or single person sized casserole’s? A buffet perhaps?

  2. I hate to be a naysayer, but I’m just not sure this is a concept that can last. I am sure it will do well initially because it’s novel and people will be curious. But, I just don’t see this sticking around.
