Jim Tidwell, owner of The Marietta Local, will open Basecamp at Kennesaw Mountain in place of Mountain Biscuits at the base of the bouldered land mass, at 1718 Old 41 Hwy NW.

Mountain Biscuits at the end of April is relocating to Dallas, GA.

“Don’t worry, we’re not going to get rid of the biscuits,” Tidwell Wednesday told What Now Atlanta in an email.

“But there are plenty of biscuit places along the corridor, so that will be a small part of what we do.”

Basecamp at Kennesaw Mountain is going to focus on “gourmet pancakes” that aren’t “hugely expensive,” Tidwell said.

Every type of pancake, from gluten-free to cinnamon to buckwheat to blueberry-lemon to regular buttermilk, will be on the menu all day.

On the weekends, either on Saturday or Sunday (or maybe both), Basecamp at Kennesaw Mountain will serve The Hair of The Dog pancakes (working title) with a Genesis Stout chocolate sauce and a Brennan’s Irish cream topping.

“I told my wife we have to open on Sundays because there’s nowhere else to eat.”

Three or four breakfast skillets will also grace the menu and for lunch “we’re working on a phenomenal veggie burger” and a daily smoked pulled pork in-house BBQ sandwich.

Also at lunch, a certified-Angus beef burger and Po’ boy will be on the menu alongside some vegan choices.

While Tidwell only expects some minor renovations at the space, a separate entrance will be built leading to a juice bar at the front of the restaurant.

“Some people coming off the mountain want healthy options.”

Fresh-pressed juices will include a “beet-berry type juice, carrot ginger, and a couple other really powerful juices.”

Developing Basecamp at Kennesaw Mountain started as a quest to expand The Marietta Local’s catering business.

“The building has a basement underneath that has a walkout so I’m going to operate my catering out this building,” Tidwell said.

“Our catering has really taken off. That’s really what got me looking.”

If all goes according to plan, Tidwell hopes to open Basecamp at Kennesaw Mountain early June 2018.

  1. Gourmet pancakes have a special place in my heart but without traveling to Buckhead…great idea for Kennesaw. We’re ready!

  2. If its anything like Mountain biscuits in price I will not be going and will warn otherwise. 27 bucks for 2 buscuits and 2 sweetteas is a ripoff. This new idea is great but it has to be economical. Waiting to see what happens.

  3. I’m very excited about this since I live right down the street from here. Any news on the other restaurants/retailers opening in Kennesaw Marketplace? I noticed signage is up for Flying Biscuit and Popeye’s. (So, there will be plenty of options to get buttery biscuits!)

  4. vegan and veggie burgers? beet juice?? OMG WHY?? if it ain’t broke!! this is not NYC or even Johns Creek…why is this happening?? when I come down the mountain I don’t crave a veggie burger w/ grass on the side. why did they have to leave???

  5. The food was great and there are so many choices!! Can’t wait to go back. The new Base Camp had been open only 3 weeks when I first went and they were working out some kinks in the system but the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

  6. We used to go to Mountain Biscuits in spite of the cost because of the location. We once had chicken that had obviously been fried twice & was not so good, but we went back anyway. When we saw their signs supporting Trump, we quit going.
