A mixed-use project called “The Commons” is moving forward, set to bring retail and restaurant development and housing options to East Point.
City Council has approved the Real Estate Purchase Sale Agreement between the city and Mynd Match Development Group of Atlanta, paving the way for a transformation of the nine-acre site.
The proposed development will include approximately 79,000 square feet of office, retail and restaurant spaces; 11,440 square feet of amenity areas; and 316 multi-family residential units and 23 single-family townhouse units. The development will also include 403 structured parking spaces.
“‘The Commons’ will be transformed into a vibrant destination that will attract businesses, residents, and visitors alike,” according to a press release. “This redevelopment project represents a significant investment in the future of East Point and demonstrates the City’s commitment to fostering economic growth and community development.”
There will be a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 29, 2023.
City Council approved Mynd Match Development Group as the master developer for the project in November 2021. The $111 million redevelopment project will be done in three phases. According to the Mynd Match Development Group website, the first phase will include community clinic, a 10,000-square-foot restaurant, and additional retail and commercial spaces.
Excell Lewis, chairman and CEO of Mynd Match Development Group, could not immediately be reached for comment about the project.
East Point is located southwest of Atlanta near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The city has a population of over 35,000.
