SmoQ’n Hot Grill is seeking a new location that it plans to announce in the next few months.

The eatery has been located at The Collective Food Hall at Tech Square’s CODA development since 2022, combining Southern-style comfort food with New York-style deli sandwiches. It closed at the end of March.

Delivering “the best of New York and the best of Georgia” (with a logo that aptly includes an apple and a peach), the menu includes Reuben sandwiches with homecured certified angus beef brisket. Italian-inspired items, like the chicken parmesan hero, are also top-sellers. The menu includes old-school burgers, as well as vegan and vegetarian renditions.

SmoQ’N Hot Grill will still offer catering and do pop-ups in a variety of places as they search for a new location.

David Smith and Paul Jones of Trowbridge Partners make up the team behind the concept, also the team behind Pizza Verdura Sincera, a plant-based pizzeria opening soon in Little Five Points. They also helped create PH’EAST, a food hall at The Battery serving Asian cuisine.

Smith told What Now Atlanta they are grateful for the time SmoQ’N Hot Grill was housed at The Collective, but now they are seeking a location with higher traffic during the evenings, weekends and holidays, ideally in a known dining district. They have garnered rave reviews throughout their time of operation, so it’s a good time to grow.

“We realized it was time to turn the page and enter the next chapter and redevelop this into a place where it will be really meaningful to a wider group of customers over a wider range of times and days,” Smith said.

Will they keep the same menu?

“To a degree,” he said. “We’ll tweak it to reflect the neighborhood. The central message is best of New York, best of Georgia, and I think that will remain.”

Expect the continued use of top-notch, in-season ingredients, like fresh fruits when they do seasonal cobblers.

“I made the mistake of putting this larger-than-life image of a peach cobbler up in the restaurant and people would come in February and ask for it and I’d as politely as possible say yes, in June of this year, when South Carolina and Georgia peaches are in season,” Smith joked.
