‘A 61 is not good news, but I promise you that customer safety and cleanliness of both our restaurants are of utmost importance’ – Jeff Dauler

Jeff Dauler, a co-host for Q100’s The Bert Show, was quick to respond to our tweet Sunday night wondering why his Flying Biscuit Cafe at Terminus failed its health inspection twice in seven months.

“@WhatNowAtlanta I don’t know, but your blog post will make it easy to address it with my team. Thanks?,” Dauler tweeted during the Superbowl.

Dauler owns the Flying Biscuit Cafe at the Terminus building in Buckhead and the one on West Paces Ferry Road.

The Terminus location failed its health inspection at the end of January with a 61/100 and this past July with a score of 68/100.

Monday evening, the radio co-host emailed What Now Atlanta this explanation for the unsatisfactory scores:

As I promised on twitter last night, I looked into the low health score received two weeks ago. I talked with the manager, Michael Brown, of both of my locations (Terminus and West Paces Ferry) and I learned what caused the low score and what has been done to address the issues and people that caused that failing grade. Michael contacted the Health Inspector immediately after the first inspection to review the violations, and then conducted food safety classes in both locations to address those specific areas and as an overall refresher. This proactive approach is something that was not done before Michael recently joined the team, and is a big part of why he is on board now. I am confident in his ability to correct problems and maintain exemplary restaurants.

A 61 is not good news, but I promise you that customer safety and cleanliness of both our restaurants are of utmost importance. Michael is making sure this does not happen again.

Terminus scored a 98 on the unannounced re-inspection, and 98 is the current score listed on the Fulton County website.

That refresher course must have been run by [nothing nice to say, so don’t say it] if the scores went from a 68 to a 61.

  2. Any place that serves turkey bacon ought to be shut down on general principles. Bacon comes from pigs. Not cows, not birds, not soybeans. Just like you shouldn’t defame the word sausage by making it out of fowl.

How is conducting food safety classes AFTER a failing inspection PROactive? It’s reactive, right?

  4. Bottom line is the place is straightened out. If you like the food, then enjoy. If not, just go somewhere else. I really do not understand the negativity that is so profuse in a business related blog. Everyone of these business owners is employing scores of people and its these businesses that are helping turn this economy around. Vote with your dollars and quit cheering the demise of any business. If you were an entrepreneur, you wouldn’t have the time or inclination to complain everything. You would get off your rear and try to make things better.

  5. TKell, YOU reread the article. It states that after the FIRST failure, the classes occurred. That failure was a 68. Then they failed again with a 61. You are an id- [nevermind. Nothing nice to say]

  6. Jeff walked in the kitchen – they took one look at his fat nastyness and failed the restaurant.

    Seems accurate to me…

  7. The guy fixed the problem. Give him a break. Also, those of us who don’t eat disgusting pig meat (i. e. Muslims and Jews) LOVE turkey bacon.
