The owner, John Fan, spoke with What Now Atlanta (WNA) about the upcoming openings and how COVID threw a wrench in their plans. “This is the first time we were forced to shut down,” Fan said. “Before this was supposed to happen, we were opening in Duluth. We stopped 10% through.” At this point, Fan expects — or at least hopes for — Duluth to wrap up construction sometime in the first quarter of 2021, while Brookhaven could be looking at putting the finishing touches on by the end of this year. For Brookhaven, the owner is hoping for an opening of early next year.
This all depends on the pandemic and where we’re at with the vaccines. “How do you do a grand opening in the middle of the pandemic?” Fan did find the novel coronavirus as an opportunity to refresh and revisit the menu, continuing the “Tavern” concept and taking a break from the Sports Bar and Grill side of things. The Mazzy’s owner cited Marlow’s Tavern as a big “role model” for how they did during COVID and how they adapted, refreshed, and expanded during a difficult time. Fan feels the need to give credit where credit is due — the community of loyal customers who kept Mazzy’s afloat. “If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be open right now,” they told WNA. Mazzy’s currently operates restaurants out of Roswell, Norcross, Marietta, Kennesaw, and Milton.
Mazzy’s is known for its wide selection of spirits and wines, with “local favorites” and cocktails created by the bartenders. As far as the menu goes, Mazzy’s offers a typical small bite spread, with signatures like Mazzy’s Loaded Nachos, Mazzy’s Signature Soups, Mazzy’s Buffalo Chicken Dip, amongst others.
