26.5 acre project seeks city approval.

Plans are progressing for the forthcoming John Portman-designed hotel at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.

The world’s busiest airport is seeking approval from Atlanta City Council for a 50-year lease with Majestic Carter Atlanta Mixed Use LLC to develop a hotel, office complex and travel plaza, the AJC reports. The project would sit on on 26.5 acres adjacent to the airport terminal.

Intercontinental Group would be operating the hotel. Officials are calling the project an “Airport City.”
