Amura Japanese Steakhouse will replace the now-shuttered MF Buckhead, at 3280 Peachtree Road. MF closed in February after filing bankruptcy.

Amura submitted a building permit application with City of Atlanta at the end of August for commercial alterations at the Buckhead space totaling $5,000.

The Japanese steakhouse will open at the Terminus building in the “first quarter of 2013,” Thad Ellis, leasing manager at the Buckhead development, told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview Wednesday.

Amura was not immediately available for comment.

  1. Yeah I’m surprised a brand new independent restaurant didn’t take on the space Urbanist, I mean the rent would be super cheap and the place wouldn’t be a gamble at all eh?

  2. The rent wouldn’t be super cheap, and taking this space would be far less of a gamble if there were enough people in this city that had an interest in something other than “value meals”. The beverage / food industry is risky everywhere, but for different reasons. It’s risky in places like NYC, SF, London, etc. because your level of competition is incredibly high. It’s risky here, because if you don’t have a menu littered with things only the blandest of taste buds and tightest of wallets can handle, or a kitschy gimmick to draw in the population from the suffocating grundle of the periphery of the city, you won’t survive (Craft being a perfect example).

I guess if we had more responsible development in this city, it would be less of an issue too. Not throwing up dozens of massive high rises that we couldn’t fill, but that have a cost structure so high that they demand a rent disproportionate with the demand for business in this city, would be a good start.

  3. Craft didn’t survive because of a Las Vegas style celebrity chef pay out deal to host him at the property that quickly went south when the hotel went bust. The main problem with the former Craft location is the lack of self parking options, several local restaurant groups have looked at the space and passed because of this. As far as the MF Space any new place will do well if the food and value are ok. The 5k budget is not a true number.

  4. I hope they are real Japanese folks running it and not some wannabes like the Kinjo (Nguyen) brothers……..Alex Kinjo (Nguyen) alwsy too busy pretending to be a 4 foot tall celebrity his ass went out of business……..
