Songy Highroads, an Alpharetta-based real estate developer, has signed an agreement with the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority to begin the process, Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. It could break ground within the next 12 months, according to the news outlet.

Songy Highroads’ partner on the hotel is Matthews Southwest, a Texas-based firm that develops hotel, office, industrial, retail and residential projects. The architect for the hotel will be Cooper Carry, an Atlanta-based firm whose design portfolio includes the renovation of Fulton County’s Central Library and multiple Georgia Tech buildings.

The portfolio of Songy Highroads includes several hotels in Atlanta, including Hyatt Place Centennial Park, which opened in 2019, as well as residential and office projects.

The new hotel, expected to have about 400 rooms, would be constructed next to the Savannah Convention Center, which is undergoing a 361,000-square-foot expansion that was recently pushed back by construction delays. The convention center’s existing facilities are remaining open during the expansion project.

The news comes amid updates on another convention hotel, this one closer to Atlanta: The Westin Atlanta Gwinnett, a 348-room hotel and events facility developed in partnership with the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau that is opening soon at Gas South District.
