The restaurant announced earlier this month that the flagship location at 57 Forsyth Street NW would be closing after sustaining damage from a burst water pipe.

“I know something bigger and better is coming my way,” Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks founder and CEO Derrick Hayes said via Instagram.

Now, the restaurant has announced plans to move into a space at 300 Marietta Street NW, about 0.6 miles from the original location. According to LoopNet, the space is almost 2,800 square feet, including an outdoor patio. The space was formerly occupied by Waffle House and is located next to Twin Smokers BBQ.

Hayes was driving down Marietta Street when he saw the Waffle House was closed.

“I said, ‘This has to be my location, this was meant for me,'” Hayes said.

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Hayes wanted to bring his roots to the Peach State after relocating to Atlanta. Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks opened on Forsyth Street in 2019, but Hayes first began the concept in a Shell gas station under the name Dave’s Philly Water Ice.

In addition to the downtown outpost, Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks has locations in Doraville, Forest Park, Lawrenceville and the brand’s first out-of-state restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The menu includes beef, chicken, salmon and veggie cheesesteaks, along with egg rolls and fries.

Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks posted on Facebook in June that they were targeting five more locations, seeking feedback about where to go next.
